Our recruitment process

    Apply

    Once you’re confident first direct is for you and are sure you will pass our pre-employment checks, then it’s time to apply. You can do this online here. Alternatively you can call us in +44 2078328500 – we’d love to hear from you. 

    By clicking Apply Now, you will leave the first direct website and apply via the HSBC job site. You will be directed straight to the first direct job application.

  • step 2

    Pre-Screening call

    After we have reviewed your CV and would like to take your application forward, you will receive a call from our pre-screening team. They will run through a bit more information about the role and make sure you understand the role prior to the next stage.

    Video Interview

    Once we have completed the pre-screening call, you will receive invites to complete a Video Interview and Values Questionnaire. In the Video Interview, you will be able to record yourself answering 5 capability based questions which should take you less than 20 minutes to complete. Don’t worry, you will have a couple of attempts to practice and get your examples just right. As this is a telephone based Customer Service Role, we’re looking for friendly, professional communication which is grammatically correct with good volume, pace and clarity. Please avoid the use of any slang or jargon and be sure to show them your amazing communication skills.

    Face to Face Interview

    Keep going, you’re almost there now. The last stage of our recruitment process involves a face to face interview, lasting approximately 1 hour. We’ll ask you to talk us through the last five years of your employment or education history and will check your understanding of what’s expected of you in your chosen role. Finally, we will ask a series of competency and technical questions to ensure you have all the skills required to thrive at first direct. This is your last chance to shine, so don’t be afraid to blow your own trumpet and impress us with your strongest examples. You will usually learn the result of your interview within three working days.

    Value Assessment

    The Values Questionnaire consists of some short preference based questions which should take around 10 minutes to complete. This step in the process is to ensure that as a future employee you are well suited to first direct’s values and we make the perfect match.
